
"We succeeded in recording the solar eclipse in its peak moment when it took the crescent shape at 4.45 pm," Putra said here on Monday.
He said that Boscha could not observe the ring-like eclipse because the observatory was located outside the moon`s shadow.
"Bandung is located in an area outside the moon`s shadow. The ring-like eclipse could be observed in, among others, Banten and Lampung provinces," he said.
He said that the solar eclipse in West Java was a partial eclipse.
The eclipse happened as a result of the obstruction of the sun disk by the moon disk. The latest solar eclipse occurred in 1998.
A total solar eclipse is expected to take place in Indonesia in 2016.
"The observation almost failed because it happened to be cloudy where clouds obstructed our view toward the sun from the observation point," he said.
"The weather happened to be bright as the sun entered the first contact at 3.30 pm but at 4.24 pm it turned cloudy, though the sun still could be observed interruptedly on the sidelines of the clouds," he said.
But in the process to the peak, the sky turned bright again at 4.40 pm.
