Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of thousands of Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) cadres clogged MH Thamrin and Medan Merdeka Selatan streets in Central Jakarta on Friday in a show of solidarity for Palestine.
The demonstrators, most of whom wore white T-shirts showing the letters "PKS" marched from the Hotel Indonesia roundabout to the US embassy on Medan Merdeka Selatan Street.
On their way to the US embassy, many of the demonstrators raised their right fists and chanted "Allahu Akbar (God is Great)."
The massive rally was a form of the party`s support for the Palestinians who continue to suffer due to brutal Israeli attacks which had shown no signs of abating until Friday.
At the peaceful rally, some of the demonstrators unfurled large banners which among others read "Israel, Go to Hell."
"Muslims must unite to fight Israel... Hamas and Fatah must be united to fight Israel, or they will never gain victory," PKS President Tifatul Sembiring said.
Sembiring also questioned the stand of US President George W Bush who had turned a blind eye to the mass killing of Palestinians.
He called on US President-elect Barack Obama to have the courage to change US policies on Israel. (*)
