Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Two earthquakes respectively measuring 5.2 and 5.5 on the Richter scale hit West Papua Province, on Monday.
The national meteorological and geophysics office said here on Monday that the 5.2-magnitude quake occurred at 12.23 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
The quake`s epicenter was located at 0.35 degrees southern latitude and 133.41 degrees eastern longitude, around 92 km northwest of Manokwari, West Papua, at a depth of 10 below sea level.
The second quake occurred at 12.38 am WIB and its epicenter was located at 0.4 degrees southern latitude and 133.36 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 10 km below sea level, about 93 km northwest of Manokwari.
Meanwhile, on Saturday evening (Nov. 22), a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richer Scale jolted Bengkulu, Sumatra.
The quake was located 147 km soutwest of Bengkulu town at a depth of 10 km below sea level. The temblor was an aftershock following the first one which rattled the province at 23:01 pm with a magnitude of about 6.7 on the Richer Scale.
Last Monday (Nov. 17), a 7.7-magnitude earthquake killed four people in the district of Buol, Central Sulawesi, and another resident in Gorontalo.
Indonesia, the world`s largest archipelago, sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," the edge of a tectonic plate prone to seismic upheaval.
