Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono congratulated Barrack Obama here on Wednesday after Obama won the United States` presidential election.
With his winning, Obama is to serve as the US president for the next four years.
In President Yudhoyono`s statement in Merdeka Palace, President also congratulated the US` people for having a successfully democratic party.
"In this very good opportunity, I would like to congratulate Senator Barrack Obama for his success to be the US president for the next period and also for the people of the America for using their political rights to succeed the presidential elections," President Yudhoyono said.
Under Obama`s leadership, President Yudhoyono hoped Indonesia-America bilateral relations can be improved to be more constructive so it can bring justice and benefit for all.
President also said with the winning of Barrack Obama, Indonesia-America relations can enter a new phase.
"I have a firm belief we can increase our constructive and just relations, considering both America and Indonesia are big democratic countries," President said.
Several moths ago, President said, Obama sent him a hand-written book stated his willing to increase the US-Indonesia cooperation.
With Obama`s leadership, President Yudhoyono hoped America can lead and improve its role in creating world peace and security.
President Yudhoyono further said the US is hoped to take a more concrete action in dealing with global financial crisis which started in the US and also to have a role in building a fairer world`s economy system.
"I also hoped America can take part in the effort to cope with climate change and global warming," President Yudhoyono said.
President Yudhoyono congratulated Obama after Obama`s competitor from Republican Party john McCain acknowledged his lost and congratulated Obama.
The Indonesian President praised the democtaric act which he called appropriate with political etiquette.
Barrack Obama was declared winning the presidential elections after he got 297 electoral votes--leaving McCain with 145 electoral votes.(*)
