President Yudhoyono leads national heroes day ceremony
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Tuesday led a ceremony to mark National Heroes Day at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in south Jakarta.
Accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, the president arrived at the Heroes' Monument in the middle of the cemetery at 8:00, followed by Vice President Boediono and Madame Herawati Boediono.
Then at 8:15 the president led everybody present in observing a few moments of silence for about one minute in remembrance of the meritorious services of all the fallen heroes.
After the moments of silence, the president placed wreaths of flowers at the foot of the national heroes monument, followed by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Vice President Boediono, the United Indonesia Cabinet ministers, and other guests.
Next, the president, vice president, and the ministers sprinkled flowers onto the tombs of former Vice Presidents Adam Malik, Sudharmono, Umar Wirahadi Kusuma, and a number of national heroes such as Sustoyo Siswo Mihardjo, S Parman, MT Haryono, Suprapto, A Yani, Abdul Haris Nasution, and Edi Sudrajat.
After sprinkling flowers, the president and his entourage left the National Heroes Cemetery for the State Palace.
Present on the occasion were among others National Police Chief Gen Bambang Hendarso Danuri, State Minister for Women's Empowerment Linda Agum Gumelar, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Radjasa,
Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi, Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar, and National Education Minister M Nuh. (*)
