Telkom to issue bonds worth Rp3 trillion next year

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State telecommunications operator PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) plans to issue bonds of Rp2 trillion to Rp3 trillion in the second quarter of 2010 to meet part of capital expenditures (Capex).

"The planned bond issuance will hopefully materialize in the first semester of next year," Telkom Finance Director Sudiro Asno said here on Monday.

He said the bonds would mature in 5-10 years.

"The coupon of the bonds will be adjusted to the market interest and demand," he said.

Telkom has decided to allocate Rp19 trillion (US$2 billion) in funds for capital expenditures in 2010. Nearly 25 percent of the funds will go to Telkom, 70 percent to its cellular phone unit Telkomsel, and 5 percent to its other subsidiaries.

Telkom President Director Rinaldi Firmansyah meanwhile said proceeds from the issuance of the bonds would also be used for non-organic transactions.

"We will continue to acquire stakes in other companies supporting Telkom services," he said. But he stopped short of revealing the companies.

In September 2009, Telkom saw a 5.5 percent rise in its operating income to Rp47.114 trillion compared to Rp44.65 trillion in the same period last year.

Net profit rose 4.3 percent to Rp9.3 trillion in September 2009 from Rp8.9 trillion a year earlier. (*)
