Taiwan`s domestic aviation traffic continues downward spiral
Taipei (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Taiwan's domestic aviation passenger traffic volmue continued its steep decline last year mainly due to the expansion of high-speed railway services and the global economic slump, a civil aviation official said Monday.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) official made the remarks after legislators criticized southern Taiwan's Pingtung Airport as a white elephant because of its low utilization rate.
Except for flight routes linking Taiwan proper to its outlying islands, passenger volume on all domestic routes began to drop substantially in 1998 when National Freeway No. 3 was fully completed and opened to traffic.
