Govt to tighten security at vital transportation points
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government will boost security at every transportation point across the country following bombing incidents at Hotel JW Marriott and Hotel Ritz Carlton in South Jakarta on Friday.
Transport Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal said "this was the decision made by the tranport minister and representatives from the military and the police with regard to supervising flows of goods and passengers."
He said increased security would be carried out at airports, terminals, stations, seaports and inter-island ferry ports.
In cooperation with the military (TNI) and the police his office would increase supervision of incoming and outgoing goods and passengers.
Following the bombings that killed nine and wounded score others including foreigners his office immediately increased security at Jakarta`s Soekarno-Hatta airport.
The measure includes limiting entry and exit points at the airport by closing several of the points.
He said soon after the bombings he immediately ordered increased security of the airport and standard procedures were being carried out under direct control of the port authority.
He said the policy was taken with regard to assuring the security and comfort for all passengers at the airport. He said access had also been tightened for cargo vehicles.
"Anticipatary measures have been taken against any eventuality to create peace," he said.
National police chief General Hendarso Danuri had called on hotels and supermarkets to increase security following the bombings in Kuningan, South Jakarta, that day.
Danuri had confirmed that the bombings were suicide and that the police were now still identifying the suspects whose bodies had been found damaged.
He said the facial part of the bomber at Ritz Carlton was still intact while the head of the bomber at JW Marriott had been crushed but its skin could still be identified. (*)
