All Merpati passengers survive crash landing in Papua

Jayapura, West Papua (ANTARA News) - All 96 passengers and a crew of eight of Merpati Airlines which skidded earlier on Tuesday in Rendani airport, Manokwari, West Papua province, had been evacuated, police said.

The passengers consisted of 76 men, 21 women, three children and three infants were not hurt, but some had minor injuries, Manokwari district police chief, AKBP Bambang Ricky, said here on Tuesday.

Bambang said all the injured were taken to a hospital. The police chief added the plane`s body broke into two in the crash.

The Boeing 737 airplane belonging to Merpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA) skidded in Manokwari, Papua, on Tuesday at 11.00 am local time when trying to land. The plane was on its way from Sorong to Manokwari.

Selly, a resident, said it was foggy when the plane skidded some 700 meters along the run way.
