Johannesburg, (ANTARAnews/Reuters) - Jamaican Dustin Brown advanced to his first ATP quarter-final with a 6-4 6-4 win over France`s Laurent Recouderc at the South African Open on Wednesday.
German-born Brown, ranked 141st in the world, caused one of the tournament`s early upsets when he beat the fourth-seed, Switzerland`s Marco Chiudinelli, in the first round.
No Jamaican player has ever reached a tour-level semi-final, the ATP said on their official website (www.atpworldtour.com). "I`m still a little overwhelmed," the 25-year-old Brown told a news conference.
"I got lucky against Chiudinelli but, in beating a good player, I had confidence for today."
Brown next faces Frenchman Stephane Robert. Third-seed Feliciano Lopez overcame Slovenia`s Blaz Kavcic 6-2 7-6 to reach the last eight. (*)
