Tokyo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Japan's NTT DoCoMo Inc.
(TSE:9437) hopes to become the 3G wireless service provider for Apple Inc.'s
iPad, the company's president, Ryuji Yamada, said in a news
conference Friday.
The Apple tablet device is expected to come in
two models: one offering just wireless LAN connectivity, and the other
supporting Internet connections via both wireless LAN and 3G cell phone
networks.
Among Japanese cell phone service providers, both market leader
DoCoMo and Softbank Mobile Corp. operate networks that are compatible with
the iPad. After losing the exclusive sales rights for the iPhone in Japan
to the Softbank Corp. (TSE:9984) unit, DoCoMo appears bent on beating out
its rival this time around.
