Garut, West Java (ANTARA News) - Kadungora subdistrict, part of Garut district, suffered a material loss of Rp1,047,400,000 due to a whirlwind that hit the area last Saturday (Jan 23).
The Saturday whirlwind was followed by heavy rain in eight villages in Garut district, namely Hegarsari, Kadungora, Gandamekar, Talagasari, Cisaat, Cikembulan, Neglasari and Karangmulya.
Dadang Purwana, chief of Kadungora subdistrict, said on Monday the natural disaster had caused damage to a total of 514 houses. Six of the houses had entirely collapsed, 63 were heavily damaged, 23 moderately damaged and 432 slightly damaged.
The worst hit village was Karangmulya where 187 houses were damaged and three local residents seriously injured while 935 others evacuated to safer places.
"The affected villagers need humanitarian aid, especially supplies of nine kinds of daily necessaries," Dadang said. (*)
