Indian parliamentary panel "shocked" over coal project delays

New Delhi (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - An Indian parliamentary
panel has said it is "shocked" to find that inordinate delays in forest
and environmental clearancesbesides land acquisition are hurting the
country's coal production target and about 100 coal projects have failed to
take off. "...there has been considerable delay in land acquisitionfor 34
projects of Coal India subsidiaries which has resulted in shortfall of
coal production," the standing committee on coal and steel said in the
report.
The parliamentary committee expressed dissatisfaction over coal
major's efforts to boost production saying "it should be more serious" in
addressing bottlenecks.
