Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) positively welcomed the fact-finding Team of Eight`s recommendation to halt the legal case of suspended KPK deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra Hamzah.

"We are certainly satisfied if the recommendation of the Team of Eight goes that way," KPK deputy chairman Haryono Umar said after attending the launch of the Corruption 2009 Perception Index by Transparency International Indonesia here on Tuesday.

The team formed by President Yudhoyono to verify the facts and legal processes of the case of Bibit and Chandra, submitted its recommendation to the president on Tuesday afternoon.

Last week, the team whose mandate ended on November 16, 2009 issued its evaluation and said the extortion and bribery charges against Chandra and Bibit should be dropped for lack of evidence.

On the abuse of authority charges against the two KPK commissioners, the team believed that the police had used a "rubber" Criminal Code article (one that was so vague in wording that it could be interpreted in various ways).

If the case was still in the hands of the police, the Team of Eight would recommend the issuance of a stop-investigation order, and if it had already reached the public prosecutors, a similar order to the prosecutors which are handling the case.

Haryono said the team had worked objectively and therefore all parties should accept its positive results.

"Whatever the results of the team, it is something good and we have to acknowledge it," Haryono said.

But he refused to comment on KPK`s views about the measures the government would take after receiving the recommendation.

In the recommendation submitted to President Yudhoyoyono, the Team also asked that the case of suspended Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief Susno Duaji be continued to reach a solution.

According to the team, Susno`s legal case in the disbursement of Budi Sampoerna`s funds at Bank Century which was being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission should be continued.

The request to go ahead with Susno`s case was mentioned in one of the items in the team`s recommendations on the case of suspended KPK deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra Hamzah which had been submitted to the president on Tuesday afternoon.

The team asked that the alleged involvement of Susno and Budi Sampoerna`s lawyer Lukas in the disbursement of US$18 million at Bank Century be investigated thoroughly.(*)
