Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The powerful earthquake that rocked West Sumatra on Sept 30 destroyed at least 11 hotels, inflicting a loss of hundreds of billions of rupiahs, a spokesman said.

Worst-hit were three-star Ambacang Hotel and four-star Bumi Minang Hotel, Head of the West Sumatra Culture and Tourism Office James Hellyward said on Sunday.

The quake also caused damage to three-star Natour Muara Hotel, five-star Basko Hotel, four-star Pangeran Beach Hotel, three-star Rocky Hotel, two-star Marianis Hotel, one-star Hayam Huruk Hotel and one-star Nuansa Hotel, he said.

He said a number of non-star-rated hotels and lodgings were also damaged in the disaster.

The Ambacang Hotel could no longer serve guests because all the buildings had collapsed, he said.

Around 200 people were trapped under the rubble of the Ambacang hotel after the magnitude 7.6 earthquake devastated the city last Wednesday afternoon, he said.

Spokesman for the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) Gagah Parkasa said on Saturday more than 30 victims trapped under the rubble of the collapsed hotel had been evacuated.

On Saturday alone, rescue workers evacuated four victims. Two of the victims who were found alive were receiving intensive medical treatment at M. Jamil Hospital here, he said.

Hellyward said the Sept 30 quake also caused cracks on the pillars of eight-storeyed Bumi Minang Hotel.

A number of hotels such as Pangeran Beach Hotel and Basko Hotel were temporarily closed for technical inspection, he said.

By Sunday the massive earthquake has killed at least 603 people and injured thousands others.

The quake which was centered 78 km northwest of Padang, the capital of West Sumatra province, also has destroyed 21,732 houses, including 150 in Padang City, 180 in Bukittinggi, 160 in Padang Panjang, 24 in Tanah Datar, 10,131 in Padang-Pariaman, 8,548 in Agam, 89 in Dharmasraya, 111 in Pasaman, 1,012 in Pasaman Barat, and 1.320 in Pesisir Selatan.
